Out of three months in Colorado we all had our own personal favorite activity.  However, We all agreed that Snow Bikes were on the top of each of our favorites list.  Durango Mountain Resort is one of the very few Mountains that offer The Brenter Snow Bike to ride and rent.  I was so thrilled with the snow bikes specifically because you can do tricks and runs on it your first day that would take a skier or snowboarder seasons to learn.  With four points of stabilization on the bikes I was comfortable and able to ride down in between tree trails, catch air, and do all the difficult blue runs.  Snow Bikes are bound to be a hit.  I found it inspiring how the Snow Bike makes it possible for more health challenged persons to participate on the slopes with their families.  People with knee problems, older generations, or the ones who consider themselves "uncoordinated", or not athletic are all the types of people I met first hand that were given a second chance on the Snow Bikes.  After the lifts start to shut down, I usually am bummed but this time, the fun was not over just yet.  At the base of the lift, Steamworks Brewery set up a Clam Bake and brew celebration complete with DJ and Hawaiian Luau motif on a perfect sunshine day to benefit the local Search and Rescue team.  For lunch, I prefer The Village Market and Deli for something quick, and healthy bringing you back to the slopes feeling replenished. ^DB View less

Lucky for us, this time we were in Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort. All I heard about this resort was the fact that it was small and friendly. I think people forgot to mention that there were many terrains to explore, on both sides of the mountain. Its not small but there is a small population on the slopes so more often than not, it feels like you rule the runs. With with no queue on the chair lifts, one doesn't need to spend time waiting and you don't have to stick in runs away from the base area to avoid the crowd. Then, we were off to a cabin up in the mountains to enjoy some lunch! We were ripping at times but at times with the windy paths allowed our guide to get ahead of us. One lesson I learned for the day, you didn’t have to be crazy to run into trees! Thank god, I didn’t hurt myself or wreck the snowmobile, but I did slide into trees at times and had to ask the guide to pull the snowmobile out.  It is definitely a sport for speed seekers or to0, for families to explore new heights of the mountain ;). Lucky for us, we had reservation at Laughing Ladies Restaurant, I cannot rave enough about the food I had there, it was so fresh and the flavor was strong and aromatic. Since I cannot get enough of Colorado lamb, I ordered "Cabernet braised Colorado lamb shank, mashed potatoes, winter greens." I dont know how they did it but I drool even when I think about it! April and Greg's company for the dinner just made it unforgettable! For the first time since I have been on the road, I felt like I was home with my friends enjoying a fresh meal. Once we were up and around the Nordic ski area, I could see the beauty that everyone had raged about Crested Butte. It was a great work out too. Now that I have started to enjoy the slopes, I have realized that skiing is a family sport. It is amazing to watch little kids learn how to ski by their instructor in small groups! There were instructors even for disabled people; whether one was 5 years old or 50!Organizations like Adaptive Sports Centre were offering programs to empower disabled people with self-confidence, with a support from family and friends. Therefore, we had an instructor and a volunteer giving us a lesson. I was sitting on those skis the whole afternoon with the rush of wind against my face and the thrill of skiing down the hill. I could not help but wonder, how much joy programs like this brought to people and their families, who never thought they would enjoy this sport, I knew I was in safe hands with my skis tied to my instructor and a volunteer near me! Much enjoyment of Colorado recreation have to do with physical activity. Which is why places like Pagosa Hot Springs Resortin Pagosa Springs, CO are a complete blessing.  No matter if your skiing, snowboarding, sledding, hiking, or biking, soaking in the hot springs will put your body back into its place.  The sighs I let out of ease after my first dips in the hot springs are almost tangible.

For the last two months I have learned that no matter what part of Colorado you are in, not to far away is a mountain resort.  However, you will not find zip-lining much in Colorado nor anywhere globally which makes Salida, CO especially special.  Captain Zipline will be one of those things that you must add to your own personal bucket list.  Not always being a fan of heights, I will admit I found myself feeling slightly nauseated before the send off but I pushed myself through it.  After I completed the first line of five, I was shocked to notice that riding the lines in between the canyons was rather smooth and calm.  So even though the next 4 lines got steeper and longer swinging high above 250 feet, I was in total control.  I began to take notice of the fascinating views below while enjoying the gain of speed from point A to B.  For many moments on each zipline you will feel disconnected from the human body and one with nature like a strong wind or force.  These moments you will never forget.  ^DB View less

Now that we have been in Colorado for nearly 2 months and we are getting more and more acquainted with the people and the state. It is giving me a different prospective on the American lifestyle and culture. The corporate and fast food lifestyle that was known to me as the American lifestyle is now being changed into this warm and active lifestyle, where people care what they eat and what they do.

I cant make out is it because of the mountains or because of this close nit community lifestyle, but whatever the reason maybe I am just loving my journey here in Colorado! Since we chose to stay at Nordic Inn, the owners, Alan & Judy offered a unique personal experience. They wanted to take us to their cabin out in the mountains for lunch and the only way to get there was to Nordic ski / snow mobile/snow cat ride! We headed off to the trail, once the car came to a complete stop, it was up to us to get there. Once we got on our skis and started, it turned out an amazing trek to a beautiful little creek, a place popular for weddings.Soon we got to the cabin, where Judy had prepared fresh homemade lunch, it had been months since I had a chance to sit down like that and enjoy a meal!Rejuvenated I was off the drive the enormous snow cat, which hover the slopes in the night! It was strange how they didn’t have any steering wheels, but two stick which manipulate the speed of the different tracks which directed this machine into different direction, keeping both the hands and fingers constantly busy! I am now two months in of traveling Colorado and logically, the most visited attraction are the numerous ski resorts.  Ski days have never gotten old and out of the multitude of activities I have done in the last two months, I still prefer to be on the slopes daily and will be the last person on the lifts, closing down the resorts.Monarch Mountain has an abundance of reasons to visit.  For starters, all natural snow, great powder, discounted prices, free adjoining parking, ample varied terrain, and no horrendous lift lines.  If that is not a sell in itself, by all means, I will keep the ball rolling.For both the two days I skied Monarch Mountain I had an amazing ski Instructor, Rick Boucher.  I was ultimately astonished on my progress of just two days of instruction with Rick did for my skiing abilities.  The instruction given at Monarch Mountain was so descriptive and well understood that I am positive Rick's lessons will help me for decades to come.  I was so pleased and inspired to see an employee truly enjoy their work with ample passion and willingly perform to the fullest. After two full days of skiing, nothing completes the day better than a visit to the hot springs.  Mount Princeton Hot Springs, merely a 15 minute drive form Monarch Mountain gets my vote on most beautiful.  Mount Princeton actually has its heat arise all along the river and stream after you climb out and over the rivers rocks so you can enjoy the natural beauty aesthetics.  Unlike other hot springs I visited where the sulfur heat is funneled and one can only experience the heat from a man made pool.  This felt much more authentic.  ^DB View less
